The American President continues to get into another series of controversy this week. President Donald Trump has recently made a shocking proposal over his 2018 fiscal year budget. He has proposed to cut the budget of $5.8 billion from the National Institutes of Health.Health groups argue that proposed cuts is going to affect years of ongoing research on HIV, Alzheimer’s and Cancer. Biomedical researches have been the foundation of diagnostic and therapeutic insights in many illnesses since decades.
“Medical research isn’t something that you can turn on and off like a faucet,” said Nancy Davidson, president of the American Association for Cancer Research.
The cut down is expected to roll back NIH budget to what it was in 2003. NIH funded biomedical researches have reduced mortality from several diseases including Cancer, Heart Diseases and Genetic Disorders over several years. All the clinical trials are based upon conclusions withdrawn from biochemical research.
“A medical research breakthrough at the NIH saves not just one life but potentially millions of lives over generations,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, the ranking Democrat on that subcommittee. “I am hopeful that Congress rejects this budget and works in a bipartisan fashion to restore the funding levels for the NIH as we have done in the past.”
President Trump has been widely criticized for his controversial remarks and tweets since the election campaign. Trump has also been criticizing Obamacare since the beginning of election campaign.
